The IHFC Building in High Point announced that Hooker Furniture Corporation last week expressed confidence in the economy in general, and the High Point Market specifically, when it extended its lease space at the IHFC and significantly expanded its showroom space. The multi-year agreement encompasses in excess of 100,000 square feet and includes the space occupied by Hooker brands Hooker Furniture, Bradington-Young and Sam Moore Furniture. “We are very comfortable committing to the High Point market, and expanding our presence there. In fact, we envision having a significant presence there for the long term,” said Paul Toms, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Hooker Furniture. We believe High Point is the premier market where we can best serve the majority of our customers for the foreseeable future in a cost effective way.” Recent attendance statistics support Toms’ confidence in High Point. Over the past several Markets, attendance has remained steady in spite of the jittery economy. More importantly, Market has seen significant increases in the numbers of interior designers and foreign buyers visiting in the spring and fall. “There’s no question that our Market remains the world’s most influential,” observed Tom Mitchell, IHFC’s President and CEO. “For a company of Hooker’s stature to validate that fact as they have, says loud and clear that the future is very bright here.” Headquartered in Martinsville, VA, Hooker Furniture is one of the nation’s largest publicly traded furniture companies, with an 83-year history of designing and crafting functionally elegant home furnishings. Opening in 1921, IHFC was the original showroom building in High Point and after 88 years of expansion remains the centerpiece of the world’s largest home-furnishings trade show that attracts more than 90,000 participants twice a year to 2,000 showrooms covering 11.5 million square feet. IHFC alone is home to 650 of the leading home-furnishings manufacturers, including 13 of the top 20 companies, and covers 3.5 million square feet.
