Duke Realty Corporation announced that it has leased 83,864 square feet of distribution space to Mattress Giant at its Park 27 Distribution Center II in Davenport, Fla., outside Orlando. Addison, Texas-based Mattress Giant is consolidating distribution services to 70 of its retail locations in Florida out of Polk County, Florida-based, Park 27 II. This brings the 396,740-square foot distribution center to 92 percent leased. Mattress Giant’s $5.4 million distribution center brings 40-45 new jobs to the area, generating an estimated $750,000 in wages and benefits, annually. More than 40 varieties of mattress brands will be distributed out of the facility, including Tempur-Pedic®, Simmons®, Sealy®, Serta® and Casa Cristina by Lady Americana. “After 25 years of doing business in Florida, we are pleased that our continued growth has allowed us to open this $5.4 million facility to, more efficiently than ever, service our loyal customers throughout the state,” said Dan Younkman, Mattress Giant executive vice president of sales, and Central Florida resident. “Being able to leverage Polk County’s geographical location to better meet the needs of our customers, while making a positive impact upon the local economy makes this a win-win for us all.” “Polk County continues to draw corporate users seeking to optimize their logistics operations because of the area’s central location in Florida,” said Doug Irmscher, senior vice president of Duke’s Central Florida operations. “The area offers great access to I-4, I-95, I-75, U.S. 27 and the Florida Turnpike, and the opportunity to reach more than 15 million consumers within 220 miles.” Ultimately, Park 27 Distribution Center can support approximately 1.2 million square feet of bulk distribution space. For its part, the 28 million-square foot Polk County distribution market has absorbed approximately 3 million square feet in the past two years, including more than 600,000 square feet this year.
