Selamat Designs, a designer and manufacturer of high-end occasional furniture and accessories, announced that it will introduce more new furniture pieces at this year’s Fall High Point Market than at any time in the company’s history. More than doubling the typical number of product introductions, the company is delivering on its commitment to bring forth more than 100 new products by year’s end. “Just a few short months ago, we brought some significant design talent in-house to revitalize our brand,” said Thatcher Davis, President of Selamat Designs. “The team has really delivered – the new designs both reflect our classic heritage and take us in a fresh new direction. We believe buyers at the market will be pleased with both the quality and the value of our designs.” Selamat Designs’ creative team is lead by Randall Shepard, Executive Vice President of Product Development and Anna Watkins Porter, Lead Designer. With more than four decades of combined experience from venerable companies including McGuire, Sutherland and Palecek, Shepard and Porter have drawn upon their deep manufacturing knowledge, their materials expertise and their well-honed design aesthetic to deliver the Fall 2008 collection. Shepard describes the collection as “an eclectic grouping of rattan seating and tables with certain silhouettes that give a distinct nod to the past, while others look forward to the future through fresh new forms.” The Fall 2008 Collection: The collection being unveiled at High Point includes occasional seating and tables, and introduces new finishing standards for the company. The two new standard finishes are: Nutmeg - a light warm creamy beige finish, and Clove – a dark and rich fruitwood finish. Both finishes are hand applied, with transparent stains carefully wiped and clear coats of satin lacquer polished to show the natural beauty of the rattan grain below with brilliant clarity. The collection draws from diverse international inspiration; some of the highlights include: The Regeant Collection – inspired by an English garden, this collection includes a Lounge Chair, Sofa, Daybed, Side Table and Coffee Tables featuring repeating architectural decoration. The Elise Collection - The stunning iconic element in the back of the Elise Slipper Chair and the side panels of the coordinating Elise Nesting Tables, will make notable statements in many different rooms within both residential and commercial installations. Tierta Tables – The elegant hourglass designs incorporated into the base of these side and center tables offer an innovative take on a classic form. The Taylor Dining Table – The sensuous curves, and pleasing combinations of clustered poles, make up elements of the Taylor Dining Table, which accommodates up to six people and serves a range of smaller dining needs. Materials and Construction Details: All of the pieces are made with the highest quality rattan poles, joined through sturdy construction and wrapped with traditional bindings for additional strength and character. Sturdy wooden frames reinforce decks in seating models, while high quality elastic webbing provides luxurious sitting comfort. Upholstery Information: Two new distinctive linen weave fabrics are being introduced on pieces featuring cushions and upholstery: Rice – a buttery shade of off-white, and Wheatberry – with the grainy tones of a medium golden brown. Cushions and upholstery can also be ordered in Selamat Designs’ standard base fabric, Cream Herringbone - a neutral color weave of exceptional value. All loose and upholstered seats are made of polyurethane foam cores with fiber wraps. Loose back cushions are filled with top quality fiber. Selamat Designs’ Fall 2008 Collection will be on display from October 19 – October 26 at the High Point Market, at the company’s showroom, Interhall IH108. To reduce excess paper consumption, Selamat Designs will be providing press materials on USB drives upon request by press. Important note: Photography will be available after the High Point Market.
