Four Hands announced that they have donated their award-winning home furnishings to the new LEED certified Ronald McDonald House in Austin. Four Hands has supplied furniture for 10 rooms at the new Ronald McDonald House. The product includes coffee tables, end tables, and desks, along with matching chairs, ottomans, lamps, pillows and throws. All of the wood tables donated are made of eco-friendly reclaimed teak. Four Hands strived to make each room as comfortable and home-like as possible for the families staying there while maintaining a high level of sustainability. “We are very pleased to help further the mission of the Ronald McDonald House” said Matthew Briggs, President and COO. "In donating this furniture we're simply trying to support its efforts to keep families together while their children receive medical care at area hospitals.” The 28,500-square-foot Ronald McDonald House, which opened in December 2007, provides nurturing programs and a supportive home-like environment where families stay together while their children receive treatment in Austin-area medical centers. The building is comprised of 30 guestrooms, multi-use common areas and administrative offices. The Ronald McDonald House is the first green House in the world. It is the first building in the city of Austin and only the third in the state of Texas to attain the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification, the highest level of green building awarded by the United States Green Building Council. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in six key areas of human and environmental health, including sustainability, water efficiency and use of recycled materials.
