ABC Home announced that in recent months the NYC based store has been expanding its modern furniture collection to include “stores within stores” like Tom Dixon and Blu Dot. It will now be launching a new Herman Miller installation on May 15th called Herman Miller Environment. What’s exciting about this co-venture is that we have taken eight of their most popular silhouettes and upholstered them in fashion-forward fabrics from Maharam that are unique to these pieces. The result is a more dynamic and versatile iteration of some of their more classic items, traditionally used as office furniture. In keeping with ABC Home’s design principle of integrating modern pieces with antiques, eastern and western sensibilities and generally shaking up the mix to create something unexpected of the status quo, Herman Miller Environment will offer customers exciting new interpretations of these enduring classics. Paulette Cole, the CEO and Creative Director of ABC Home, has decided to re-introduce the Herman Miller collection (first carried over a decade ago) because she appreciates the enduring value of its clean lines and the fact that it was a pioneer in manufacturing sustainable furniture. The fabrics in the ABC custom program offered by Maharam are all Greenguard. Realized on specific styles like the Executive Chair and Compact Sofa in “Massive Paisley” and the Eames Aluminum Group Lounge Chair in “Intricate” (pictured here), they are exclusive to ABC Home. Additionally, Herman Miller Environment will be the platform for which ABC Home launches a cradle to cradle program starting with the Aeron, Mirra and Cella chairs. The Charles and Ray Eames story will be an important educational component and be communicated through wall projections in the shop.
