The High Point Market plans to keep the hits coming and Market-goers moving this Fall with an exciting line-up of headliners slated to entertain as part of the Stars Under the Stars concert series. The nightly entertainment is set to kick off under the main event tent on Monday evening, October 20, 2008 with KC & The Sunshine Band, playing some of the hottest dance hits of the ‘70s. The group, led by Harry Wayne “KC” Casey and Richard Finch, earned nine Grammy nominations and sold some 75 million records featuring some of the era’s most instantly recognizable number-one singles: “That’s the Way (I Like It),” “(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty,” “Get Down Tonight,” “I’m Your Boogieman,” “Keep It Comin’ Love,” “Boogie Shoes,” (included on the monster-selling “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack) and “Please Don’t Go.” One of the seminal forces in pop music, KC has the distinction (along with the Beatles) of being the only artist to have four number-one singles in the span of a single year. On Tuesday evening, October 21, 2008, Peter Frampton, one of the biggest arena rock superstars of the ‘70s, takes the Stars stage. His double-LP set, “Frampton Comes Alive!” spent 17 weeks at the top of the U.S. charts in 1976, becoming the biggest selling live rock album of the time. The album spawned a trio of hits, “Show Me The Way,” “Do You Feel Like We Do,” and the ballad, “Baby, I Love Your Way,” and his pioneering use of the talk-box guitar effect became a trademark of his legendary concert performances. Wednesday evening, October 22, 2008, the Stars series switches gears with country music star Jo-Dee Messina, the first female country artist to score three multiple-week number-one songs from the same album. Voted the Academy of Country Music’s Top New Female Vocalist in 1998, and winner of the Country Music Association (CMA) Horizon Award in 1999, Messina began charting hits with “Heads Carolina, Tails California,” and went on to score with “I’m Alright,” “Bye-Bye” “You’re Not in Kansas Anymore,” “Lesson in Leavin’,” and “Bring On the Rain,” a duet with Tim McGraw that became her first contemporary radio cross-over hit. “Our entertainment this Spring—Kool & The Gang, Cheap Trick and Robert Cray—among others, was very well received by Market guests, and the Stars Under the Stars events continue to grow in popularity,” says Brian D. Casey, president and chief executive officer of the High Point Market Authority. “Planning is already well under way for another outstanding line-up of crowd-pleasing entertainment and educational events for Fall Market, and I urge everyone if they haven’t already done so, to register for updates on the highpointmarket.org website, in order to stay on top of the schedule as new events are added.” About the High Point Market Authority: The High Point Market Authority is the official sponsor of the High Point Market in High Point, North Carolina.
