1800mattress.com announced that in New York City on Thursday, March 6th at 5:00 a.m., the tele-retailer of bedding products and accessories, will throw away the keys to the front doors of three Manhattan showrooms and its regional clearance center in Long Island City. The chain’s showrooms at 64th St. and Second Avenue, 95th St. and Third Avenue, and 34th St. and Ninth Avenue will remain open for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, the company’s clearance center at 31-10 48th Avenue will also be open continuously. A key feature of the new business model will be 24/7 delivery in Manhattan, so if a consumer finds the right mattress during the night, the mattress can be delivered and setup in their bedroom within 2 hours. The company also has bedding consultants fluent in Spanish, Russian, Italian and French will be available to assist consumers with their purchases. The bedding retailer is launching the initiative during National Sleep Awareness week, and as part of the nationwide effort, will have medical sleep experts at each of the Manhattan showrooms to offer consumers advice on how to get a better nights sleep for 24-hours, beginning Thursday, March 6th at 10 p.m. For 1800mattress.com, this is yet another key innovation in the mattress space. During their 30-year history, they were the first to offer same-day delivery, when it used to take two weeks to get a mattress; they later narrowed that to two-hours in the New York metro area; and were the first to offer consumers a comfort guarantee whereby they could exchange a mattress within 30-days. This is now widely copied throughout the industry. “We have always offered our customers the ability to shop how they want, when they want and at the price they want to pay by offering 24/7 telephone and internet capabilities. It made good sense to extend that to our showrooms,” said 1800mattress.com Founder and CEO Napoleon Barragan. “We now understand that nearly 30-percent of consumers want to try a bed before making a purchase, to it is increasingly important to have the showrooms open for them when it is convenient for them.” “Manhattan will be the first of what we see as a nationwide launch of the program. Between people working late, commuters, shift workers, it is a 24-hour city. We also know from the history in the call center and on-line, that there is good business to be done after 10 p.m., when most of our stores traditionally closed,” said Executive Vice President of Sales and Merchandising John O’Connell. “The key will also be our new 24 hour delivery option. Whereas before, we delivered from 6 a.m. to about midnight, now the consumer in Manhattan can also get their bed during the night, when candidly, they need it most.” Founded in 1976, 1800mattress.com is the leading national multi-channel (internet, call center and showrooms) retailer of mattresses, box springs and bedding products. It features products by Sealy, Serta, Simmons, Tempurpedic and King Koil among others from its 30 beds and mattress menu, including custom sizes, sofa beds, Murphy beds, futons, and adjustable and organic beds.
