The Brazilian Contemporary Furniture & Home Décor Manufacturers Association – ABIMAD recently held its second export seminar to prepare its members for the challenge and rewards of exporting. The 2 day training section took place in the City of São Paulo on August 3-4, 2006. The seminar participants were divided into two major groups, according to their experience in exporting. Enrollment in the seminar is a prerequisite for ABIMAD members who plan to participate in the international business meetings that will take place during next ABIMAD furniture fair in February. The Association is planning a series of meetings between its members and international retailers that will be participating in the “Retailers Trade Mission” to ABIMAD 2007. During the seminar, the coordinator of ABIMAD Quality for Export Program, Mr. Fábio Belmonte, outlined the program’s purpose and the ways in which it qualifies Brazillian companies to undertake exporting activities. “I emphasized the elimination of technical barriers to exporting and the procedures to be taken by our members as for them to deliver high quality exporting services”. Two major topics discussed during Mr. Belmonte’s presentation, were: packaging and product certification by internationally recognized institutions. Besides ABIMAD’s Quality for Export Program presentation, the seminar participants also attended training sessions on the following topics: Exporting Proceures, Pricing for Export, Export Financing, International Logistics and Transportation of Furniture and Exhibiting and Visiting International Durniture Markets.
