Television lifestyle guru Libby Langdon announced for a new educational outreach campaign called Libby’s Healthy Homes through which she will promote important home and property safety tips to homeowners, apartment dwellers, landlords and contractors. Langdon - whose design styles and home improvement ideas are featured on FOX TV’s nationally-syndicated makeover show, “Design Invasion” will address a myriad of topics including lead poisoning, indoor air quality, electrical safety and fire hazards during a series of online, television and public appearances across the country. “Home safety is an important subject to me and Libby’s Healthy Homes is a project that I’ve wanted to create for a long time,” Langdon said. “The majority of health and safety hazards in and around the home are preventable through simple and cost effective solutions.” "Living better begins with proper care and maintenance of our homes," she said. The Centers for Disease Control identifies childhood lead poisoning as the most preventable environmental health problem facing young children in the United States. Every day children are exposed to a variety of risks in the home that can easily be avoiding including: mold, pest and chemicals. One of Langdon’s main objectives is to seek corporate partnerships that will allow her to provide easily understood and low-cost information to help families reduce potential dangers to children, families and older adults at home. Langdon intends to target housing where these risks are most likely arise. Through "Design Invasion," Langdon has developed a unique perspective on how America families live in their homes. In each show she is tasked with performing a cost-effective, one-day makeover of a room in a selected family’s home. These makeovers not only provide an opportunity for improving the "look" of the home, but also reducing risks in the home. During her initiative, Langdon will adhere to a unique holistic approach to home repair by addressing potential hazards in a coordinated fashion, rather than piecemeal. In addition, Libby’s Healthy Homes will enlist home-construction and renovation companies to join this effort and offer discounted products to disadvantaged families and communities seeking to remedy existing home problems. “Many of the techniques used to identify and reduce these risks are easy and inexpensive,” said Ms. Langdon. “In the majority of unsafe homes, there is no need to suffer from unhealthy living conditions.” Langdon also will make her healthy home tips available on her website, www.libbylangdon.com About Libby Langdon Libby Langdon is a model, actress, lifestyle guru, interior designer and a host of FOX TV’s nationally-syndicated home makeover program, Design Invasion. A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, she began her professional career as a model for world renowned modeling agencies Elite and Wilhelmina. Afterwards she emerged as a soap opera and Hollywood actress, with dozens of TV appearances and films to her credit. Langdon is equally adept behind the camera and has been a producer on several films including A Shot at Glory, starring Robert Duvall and Michael Keaton, Outside Providence, Say You'll Be Mine and Federal Hill, all in which she also starred. Libby Langdon Design was launched in response to overwhelming requests for her expertise in design. The success of that venture led to the offer from FOX and Banyan Production executives who cast Langdon as a host on Design Invasion, which premiered in September 2004. Her skills remain in high demand by prominent individuals and popular retail and dining establishments. She is presently working on a complete interior renovation of a leading cardiologist’s home in the Watermill district of the Hamptons. In the fall of 2004, Langdon’s expertise was called upon by the owners of La Masseria, located in mid-town Manhattan. She has been credited for bringing the name of the restaurant to life – in Italian masseria means farmhouse. When Massimo Bizzocchi, an Italian designer of menswear decided to open a store in one of New York’s hippest areas, the meatpacking district he searched for a designer that would be able to turn the gutted space into a dual-purpose environment – to serve as a sleek and modern venue to display his line of clothes and as a after-hours venue for special events; Langdon was the only designer able to meet his challenge.
