American Forests' Living Classrooms program will receive 100% of the proceeds from the sale of IKEA's Blue Bag during Environmental Awareness Week at the IKEA store in East Palo Alto. From Monday, April 18th through Friday, April 22nd a reusable blue bag promoted for the Bring Your Own Bag (BYOB) program in the Bay Area will help the IKEA store in East Palo Alto to make the Living Classrooms program a reality. American Forests' Living Classrooms program is a unique educational resource that combines tree-planting opportunities for students with teacher-designed lesson plans and American Forests' proprietary CITYgreen software. Together they allow teachers to introduce Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in their schools and, through the use of the latest technology, show students how the environment, math, science, and geography are linked. "People in the Bay Area are always looking for ways to help the environment, and now IKEA East Palo Alto is providing them with an opportunity to support a worthy cause," said Viviana Coriat, Community Relations with IKEA East Palo Alto. Since its 1943 founding in Sweden, IKEA has offered a wide range of home furnishings and accessories of good design and function, at low prices so the majority of the people can afford them. IKEA has been named – for two years in a row – to Working Mother magazine’s annual list of the “100 Best Companies for Working Mothers,” and this year to Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work for.” IKEA is recognized as a socially responsible company, and continuously supports initiatives that benefit causes such as children and the environment.
