Taylor King, innovative designer and manufacturer of hand-crafted upholstered seating and coordinating occasional furniture, is introducing the company’s largest new product offering ever at the Spring International Home Furnishings Market in High Point. In keeping with the company’s dramatic history of growth in the upholstered furniture segment, spring market will reveal a range of new silhouettes designed to freshen the Taylor King and King’s Road lines, and the Taylor King Occasional line will showcase 45 new pieces in a new 3,000 square foot gallery that is opening for the first time this April. The company’s fashion fabrics are a symbol of the Taylor King brand, and its brilliant new textile introductions are layered and paired for what promises to be the most exciting furniture found at the market. “I feel we have the most exciting fabric introductions ever for this spring market,” states Tanya Comer, director of marketing. “We have a broad range of fresh color mixed with an outstanding variety of fabric textures and patterns. Our customers have responded favorably to our recent selections featuring brighter color and dramatic designs.” More pattern and more color is the overall theme in the company’s upholstery offering, and market combinations were picked to showcase the diverse range of color and textile constructions Taylor King has to offer. The color stories of the season include palettes of black, bronze and plums, chocolate browns and coppers, shades of red, green, ginger and bayberry, and stark combinations of black and white. There is a notable increase in silk throughout the showroom this market, mainly used as pillow accents and upholstered on intricate carved wood chairs. Two exceptional patterns are a rich taupe, button-tufted silk and an embroidered silk featuring a floral vine in a bright melon color. A hint of “retro” is featured in many of Taylor King’s large scale floral designs and stylized geometrics. Two showroom vignettes have been devoted to the crisp, contrasted look of black and white. Graphic dots and a faux crewel floral make an appearance on a gorgeous sofa frame that features a black polished finish on the exposed wood. A black embroidery on black calf skin is featured on the back of an exposed wood chair, which is accented by pewter nail trim. A cotton fabric featuring a black and white houndstooth design and an solid black embossed crocodile leather are other striking components of this very stark and stunning presentation. April also marks the return of large-scale sofas and chairs in the Taylor King line. Also, four new swivel bar stools have made their way into the line; two designs offer a 360 degree swivel, and two incorporate memory swivels. The new bar stools complement the in-line selection of stationary bar stools. Taylor King successfully launched upper-end reclining chairs to the market in 2004, and, based on their success, is doubling the collection with another eight chairs in April. All derived from best-selling stationary chairs, the recliners feature four-way, flow-matched fabrics, a hidden handle release, and over 20 wood finishes to choose from. The biggest development in this collection, however, is the new introduction of the “Taylor Made” recliner. A Taylor Made recliner is a wall-hugger design with three different arm options, two back options, and two bases to choose from. Customers can design a recliner to suit their style and may also choose from comfort options with motorized functionality and a swivel glider option. “Our Taylor Made stationary offering has been extremely successful for many years”, states Taylor King President Del Starnes. “Introducing recliners with the same custom capabilities will continue to separate our line of upper end recliners from our competition.” Taylor King has expanded on its Taylor King Leather line of acclaimed silhouettes, all upholstered in premium, hand selected leathers and stunning combinations of leather and fabric. Unique leathers such as hair-on hides, calf skin with embroidered designs, and embossed basket-weave patterns appear as accents. Black, dark chocolate, warm browns are always compatible with fabrics. However, paprika reds and rich greens are the new hues in body leathers on sofa and chair frames. Synonymous with casual elegance, the King’s Road collection of relaxed upholstered silhouettes and upholstery fabrics is adding on to its fast-growing Casual Corners collection. The expansion includes six distinctive forms that can be customized to fit in with the spirit of today’s families. With over 20 SKUs available in each style, customers can choose from options including sleeper sofas with two different sizes of sleeper mattresses. Customers may choose any fabric from the vast Kings Road upholstery collection for Casual Corner pieces. Market fabrics throughout the Kings Road collection offer a good mix of color and value. Punchy Jamaican prints and casual linens are fresh and bright in colors including bright green, red, and yellow. Warmer colors of ginger, chocolate and raisin offer understated elegance on generously proportioned sofas and chairs. Between Fall Market 2004 and April’s upcoming event, Taylor King has added over 3000 square feet of floor space to its showroom. In preparation for a big expansion in the Taylor King Occasional (TKO) line this market, the company has dedicated a portion of the new space to create an occasional gallery. Twenty-four new pieces have been added to Thaxton Lane, a solid wood collection made from solid mahogany and decorative veneers that can be compared to the industry’s finest. Another twenty-six introductions are part of the larger TKO line. These new mixed media occasional groups combine various metals, wood, rustic stones, dramatic black granite, and glass. The Taylor King showroom is located on the 2nd floor of High Point’s 200 Steele Building, and the 15,000 square foot space exemplifies the elegant and creative spirit of Taylor King. The showroom is open from 9:00am to 6:00 pm during market dates.
