Park Place Corporation, founded in 1931, has participated in a "first of its kind" anti-microbial hotel environment and living laboratory. Working in conjunction with Clemson University, the James F. Martin Inn and Microban®, Park Place developed their first anti-microbial mattress, and produced 133 mattress and boxsprings for the Clemson-based Inn scheduled for their grand opening in September of 1998. According to Park Place President & CEO Jimmy Orders, "This Inn is a working laboratory that will be studied and analyzed by Clemson and Microban® on an ongoing basis." Research will be gathered through subjective input from the Inn's guests via their completed comment cards. Additionally, bioburden in the guestrooms will be monitored on a continual basis (monthly for the first six months, and quarterly thereafter) by taking cultures from the various Microban® enhanced surfaces. Comparisons will be made with non-treated surfaces in the same environment and with comparable surfaces in another hotel property in the same geographic area. "As a partner in this project, we will have access to the research which will enable Park Place to monitor the quality and durability of our newest lodging industry product," comments Orders. "We are also excited about introducing our first residential anti-microbial mattress at the upcoming High Point Furniture Market in October." "We were fortunate to have several of our vendors partner with us in developing this product," said Orders. "Blumenthal Print Works, Carpenter Company, Bo-Buck Mills, and Leggett & Platt were key players in this development. Working with excellent vendors such as these on the new anti-microbial product is exciting for all of us." Park Place Corporation, founded originally as Orders Mattress Company, is located at 6801 Augusta Road on a 39-acre campus, in a Century 2000, state-of-the art, and ergonomically designed facility. Founded during the throes of the Great Depression, the company continues to operate under the direction of three third generation members of the Orders family. According to President and CEO Jimmy Orders, "Through the years we have witnessed many changes, but one thing that has not changed is our dedication to quality in our products and integrity in standing behind them. Without this policy, we could not have survived since 1931."
