Houston-based BPG (Bent Pencil Group), owner of AdPlex, has signed a letter of intent to purchase Multi-Ad Services, Inc. (MASI), a major advertising services company in Peoria, Illinois serving retail, manufacturing and newspaper clients. The acquisition of MASI will enhance AdPlex's role as a single-source marketing services leader, and it will increase BPG's annual revenue from $68 million to over $100 million. "This is a strategic move for us because of the compelling synergies and strengths between AdPlex and MASI," said Galen Walters, Chairman and CEO of AdPlex. "We both focus on emerging technologies, and together we can provide creative and integrated solutions for our expanded client base. In the 2nd Quarter of this year, we will bring together conventional and Internet-based AdPlex/MASI applications with a suite of products unlike any other in the marketplace. It will change the way retail advertising is done." AdPlex was founded by Galen Walters in 1981 and serves the high-end retail, grocery, travel, automotive, newspaper and manufacturing industries. AdPlex offers an array of services including creative, data marketing, digital asset management, imaging and printing. It is one of the top 100 US printers and one of the top 25 US prepress providers and employs more than 480 people across the country. MASI is a 55-year-old company that specializes in retail advertising content and software. Services include "Kwikee" images for retail, "Creator" publishing tools for retail and newspaper advertising layout / production, "Ad Planners" for manufacturers, "ReCAS" co-op tools for newspapers, and "AdBuilder" creative and art for the newspaper industry; all of which are both print and Internet based. "MASI has been employee-owned since 1986, so employees will benefit financially from the sale," according to Larry Clore, President of MASI. A letter of intent signed by both companies calls for the purchase to be completed by April 30.
