ASFD 2000 Pinnacle Awards

The American Society of Furniture Designers (ASFD) announces that its fifth annual Pinnacle Design Achievement Awards competition is underway with the official Call for Entry Pinnacle poster currently being mailed to furniture designers and manufacturers throughout North America. This year's Pinnacle Award sponsors and categories include Appalachian Hardwood for juvenile furniture; Casual Living magazine for summer/casual; FurnitureStyle magazine for occasional; Hafele America, Inc. for major collections; Home Lighting & Accessories magazine for lighting and accessories; Laminating Materials Association for home theatre and home office; Leggett & Platt, Inc. for motion upholstery; Lilly Industries, Inc. for bedroom; nest magazine for stationary upholstery; The October Company for formal dining; and Wilsonart International for casual dining. The 2000 Pinnacle judges are Dr. Richard Bennington, director of the Home Furnishings Program at High Point University; Judith Cushman, head of J. Z. Cushman & Company; Tom Edmonds, contributing editor at Furniture/Today; Robert Ficks, Jr., director of the Home Furnishings Council; Ellen Gefen, president of Gefen Productions and Majec, Inc.; Jaclyn Hirschhaut, vice president of public relations for AFMA; Mike McCune, divisional merchandise manager for Dillards; Allen Norwood, home editor for The Charlotte Observer; Max Shangle, instructor of furniture and industrial design at Kendall College of Art and Design; Cindy Sheaffer, editor of Home Accents Today; Cheminne Taylor-Smith, editor-in-chief, Casual Living magazine; and, Tony Wilkerson, senior vice president for Havertys Furniture Companies. "We're looking forward to another exciting competition in ASFD's fifth annual presentation of the design achievement awards which recognize and celebrate the furniture design profession. The Pinnacle has truly earned the respect of the industry and is now touted as the premier furniture design award. Designers and manufacturers are encouraged to participate by entering products which are successfully being mass produced to exceed standards of quality and costs; and products which delight and meet the needs of the retail furniture consumers " said Christine Evans, executive director of ASFD. Deadline for entries is September 1, 2000 and a list of finalists will be released shortly after the judging in early September. All finalists will be honored and the winners announced at the Pinnacle awards eremony on Friday evening, October 20, during the Fall International Home Furnishings Market in High Point, N.C.
