Design professionals and retailers who negotiate the "he wants, she wants" design battlefront in their businesses will want to attend the San Francisco Mart's Winter Market Design Seminar, "Couples in Conflict...Design Solutions for Those Clients Who Can't Agree", presented by Michael Payne, interior designer, author and host of HGTV's Designing for the Sexes. The seminar will be held from 2 - 4 p.m. on Friday, January 30 at the San Francisco Mart. Using the show as the basis for conversation, Payne will discuss design conflicts that arise between couples during a home- or room-renovation project and the successful compromises you can apply. He'll use examples from the show to illustrate how pleasing resolutions can be achieved. After working ten years in the computer industry, Michael Payne decided to pursue a career in interior design at UCLA. Upon graduation in 1980, he founded Michael Payne Design, offering interior design services to clients on a national and international basis. Today, his firm is involved primarily with projects featured on Designing for the Sexes, but he offers design consultation on a limited basis. Payne is an ASID member and is a Certified Interior Designer in California. Payne's first book, Let's Ask Michael: 100 Practical Solutions for Interior Design Challenges, was released in spring 2003. Payne will sign his book during a reception immediately following his talk. Admission to the seminar is $25 for Mart members and students and $35 for non-members. Reservations are required; your check or credit card guarantees your spot. Complimentary coffee and desserts will follow the seminar. To RSVP, call 415-437-7100 or e-mail seminars@sfmart.com. The San Francisco Mart, located at 1355 Market Street between Ninth and Tenth Streets, is open to retail buyers and interior designers. Parking is available in the SF Mart underground garage and surrounding lots. For more information on Market, visit www.sfmart.com.
