The Western Home Furnishings Association Board of Directors gathered at the Balboa Bay Club and Resort, Newport Beach, CA for the annual Fall Board Meeting. Directors, WHFA Staff, representatives from NHFA and CFMA met Friday and Saturday, November 14-15, 2003 to review the status of the association, provide guidance and discuss future opportunities. The Board’s eight committees; Finance, Executive, Member Services, Communications and Government Affairs, Conference and Tradeshow, Insurance, Information Services, and Education and Events did the bulk of the work and brought their findings to the General Board Meeting for final decisions. This meeting the Board reviewed the numbers which showed a very successful and record-breaking year for the association, they chose the location for the 2005 Annual Conference and Tradeshow and began the development of the a new manual “Performance Management Guidelines”. With perfect California coastal weather outside, the weekend was not just all closed door meetings. The Board enjoyed an afternoon harbor cruise with “team-building” games and activities, a best-idea exchange session, receptions and fine dining experiences to round out the very full weekend. “Being able to share ideas and network with the very best retailers in the West more than pays back for my opportunity to serve as a Board Member,” explains Giff Gates, Gates Furniture, Grants Pass, OR. Marty Cramer, Cramers Home Center, Ellensburg, WA states “This is just a great group of people, and I really enjoy being with them.” The all-volunteer Board consists of independent home furnishings retailers from the 10 Western States who guide and direct the actions of the association on behalf of the 1,050+ retailer members.
