Latex Foam To Rebuild Operations In Shelton, Ct

Latex Foam Products (LFP) announced that it has signed a contract to purchase the Emhart Fastening Teknologies plant on River Road in Shelton. Renovations will begin immediately, beginning the process of rebuilding the company’s manufacturing facility, which was destroyed by fire last May. LFP is expected to take ownership of the Emhart property in December. Although LFP has strong ties to Ansonia, the decision to locate in Shelton will enable the company to resume operations far sooner and remain viable. Rebuilding a facility from the ground up on the site of the former LFP plant would have taken more than a year and would have significantly risked the business. "The City of Ansonia will always have a special place in our hearts," stated William D. Coffey, Chairman of the Board and co-founder of LFP. "Mayor Della Volpe has always been there for us and we couldn’t have asked for a better home these past 17 years. We wish we could have stayed, but everyone realizes how important it is to keep jobs here in the Valley and get back to work as soon as possible." LFP had been offered incentives to move its facility out of state but will remain in the region thanks in part to an economic development assistance package from the State of Connecticut. Stephen Russo, LFP President and CEO, is encouraged by the fact that today’s announcement means that the company is that much closer to resuming operations. "After a great deal of hard work, we’re excited to begin operations in our new Shelton facility this spring. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, this is a win – win situation for LFP and our employees, our customers, and the region." In addition to producing mattress cores, Latex Foam Products is the world’s largest manufacturer of latex pillows and cosmetic applicators. Latex Foam Products has been in business in the Naugatuck Valley for over 25 years.
