The Smithe brothers from Walter E. Smithe, a premier Chicago furniture retailer, are giving away a “major award” as part of the company’s latest television ad campaign debuting this month throughout Chicagoland.  Fans of the celebrated holiday favorite, A Christmas Story, can watch the Smithe brothers depict some classic vignettes from the beloved 1983 film in three new television spots timed to coincide with the Chicago debut of A Christmas Story, The Musical! on stage at the legendary Chicago Theatre, Dec. 14-30, 2011. In addition, Walter E. Smithe is conducting a promotional sweepstakes in which shoppers visiting smithe.com or any of the company’s Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana locations have the chance to win two tickets to the Dec. 22, 2011 7:30 p.m. performance of the musical, as well as their very own “leg lamp,” as featured in both the film and musical.

“A Christmas story was one my brothers’ and my favorite holiday movies so it was great fun to reenact some of the film’s most memorable scenes in our new television ad campaign,” said Tim Smithe.  “We encourage everyone to see A Christmas Story, The Musical! this year and make sure to drop by one of our stores to check out our latest furniture collections and enter to win their very own leg lamp.”

The story revolves around young Ralphie, growing up in the suburban 1940's, who dreams of Santa Claus bringing him a coveted Red Rider BB gun for Christmas. The Smithe brother vignettes, which are set to debut on all major Chicago networks beginning mid-November, showcases three of the most hilarious scenes from the film and musical which include: the triple-dog-dare to lick a freezing flagpole, the kooky “leg lamp” which arrives in a box marked “fragile,” and the scene in which Ralphie asks a department store Santa for his coveted rifle.
