The Piedmont Furniture Club announced that it held its 25th annual golf tournament on August 31, 2011 at the Colonial Country Club in Thomasville, NC.  This was the first year the Piedmont Furniture Club incorporated a charity drive with the golf tournament.

Proceeds from the tournament went to benefit Brenner Children’s Hospital – Cancer Research. This year’s donation was made in honor of Fred and Jeff Murrow of Murrow’s Transfer.  Fred and Jeff have been long-time supporters of IHFRA and the local Piedmont Furniture Club.  Many participants, as well as those who could not attend the tournament, made additional contributions to Brenner’s Cancer Research.

Dr. Thomas McLean, MD, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Wake Forest University and Principal Investigator for the Children’s Oncology Group and Erin McCloskey, Events Coordinator for Brenner Children’s Hospital attended the tournament and expressed their gratitude for the donation to children’s cancer research. “We are extremely grateful to the Piedmont Furniture Representatives Association for their generous support of the Pediatric Oncology Program at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Every dollar raised will go towards research directed at finding a cure for childhood cancer. So this gift helps not only children here in North Carolina, but children worldwide,” said Dr. McLean. Fred and Jeff Murrow also attended the event and participated in the announcement of funds to be donated.

The tournament itself was a success with 28 teams and gracious sponsoring partners, the International Market Centers (IMC), Zenith Global Logistics, Wahlquist Management, SDJ Trucking, DeJong Enterprises, as well as Murrow’s Transfer. “Our sponsors are the reason we are able to have such a great tournament each year. We are truly grateful for their support and participation”, said Ray Jessup, Piedmont Furniture Club treasurer.
