The Sustainable Furnishings Council announced that Market starts for SFC with its customary mixer at founding member The Phillips Collection (IHFC C-202) from 5 to 7 pm Saturday night. It’s a chance for everyone, members and the general public, to meet other members and SFC staff while having a drink and a bite to eat. It’s a great way to learn more in a very social setting.

On Sunday night from 5 to 6 pm, will be a free presentation on the top floor of Showplace at Copeland Furniture (5100). The talk will cover highlights on the latest trends in sustainability that pertain to our industry, including new legislation regarding formaldehyde emissions, sourcing legal wood and pre-packed CFL bulbs. You can also gain insight into current consumer understanding and interest. It’s been a busy year on the green front and this is an easy way for media, manufacturers, retailers and designers to get caught up. While there, you can visit two other prominent SFC members in American Leather and Revco.

On Monday at noon, zany TV designer Angelo Surmelis will be at the IHFC Green Wing, Ballroom B, for a discussion about affordable, accessible design that should be available to everyone. Angelo is one of the founding leaders of the SFC’s DESIGNINGreen team of celebrity designer spokespeople who support our national “why not?” consumer print campaign. Always insightful and highly entertaining, his appearances are a must see. The event is co-sponsored by IFDA Carolinas, IHFC and the SFC.

Wrapping up on Wednesday, SFC will be staging a live presentation of the GREENleaders Certified Sustainability Training program, a 6-hour exam course (6 ceu) that provides the knowledge and accreditation to become expert in green residential. Written and presented by a LEED AP, this industry first has already graduated more nearly 450 students. Intended for manufacturers, reps, retailers and designers and offered for $299 on from 9 am to 5 pm. Contact admin@sustainablefurnishings.org for registration details.
