Larry Ryder, the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of Finance and Administration for Hooker Furniture has received the annual CFO Award for publicly-traded companies from Virginia Business magazine.

Ryder received the award at a July 1 black tie event at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond. CFO Awards for the state of Virginia were given by Virginia Business in five categories. Besides the publicly-traded category, others included large private companies, small private companies, large and small nonprofit organizations.

The winners were chosen by a panel of five judges, all of whom were previous CFO Award winners. The contest attracted 47 nominees this year.

In making the award, Virginia Business recognized Ryder for his key contributions over a 33 year career at Hooker. These include helping to guide the company through the transition from a domestic furniture manufacturer to a design, marketing and global sourcing company; diversifying the company through the acquisitions of Bradington-Young, Sam Moore and Opus Designs and taking the company from private to a publicly-traded company in Nasdaq’s prestigious Global Select market.

“This tribute to Larry is a very fitting recognition of all the positive contributions he has made at Hooker Furniture,” said Paul Toms, chairman and chief executive officer.” He is a tremendous asset to the company and a great person to work with. This honor is highly deserved. We are proud of him, but not surprised that he would be recognized for his professional and personal excellence by his peers and the Virginia financial community.”

Noting that he was both honored and humbled by the honor, Ryder said, “A leader is only as good as the people surrounding him. I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded all these years by great people at Hooker Furniture, which is a wonderful place to work, and to have excellent advisors outside the company with our banking, accounting, legal and insurance partners. “

Virginia Business, a statewide business magazine, has conducted the annual awards program since 2006.
