Merchandise Mart International Antiques Fair In October

MMPI announced that The Merchandise Mart International Antiques Fair, recognized as one of the premier antiques shows in the Midwest, returns October 2-5, 2009, as part of the Experience Design weekend held at the Merchandise Mart, Chicago. The Fair offers experienced and novice collectors alike the opportunity to shop this amazing anthology of works that range from rare antiquities to modern design, in a variety of price points.
 
More than 100 top national and international antiques and fine art dealers, coming from Canada, Japan, Turkey, the United Kingdom and more, are exhibiting in the Fair. They will showcase a wide range of antique genres to shop from, including: 20th Century Design, Americana, Architectural Design, Asian Art & Antiquities, Barometers, Books, Ceramics, Clocks, Clothing and Accessories, Decorative Arts, Folk Art, Furniture, Glass, Jewelry, Paintings, Posters, Prints, Maps, Sculpture, Silver, Textiles and Tribal Art.

In addition, the Fair hosts a variety of special events, including an exciting preview night party, a keynote presentation from interior decorator and furniture designer Darryl Carter, seminars, dealer booth talks and VIP events.

Author, interior decorator and furniture designer Darryl Carter will give the Fair’s keynote address. He is the author of The New Traditional and is nationally recognized as having spearheaded the emergent American design movement of “new traditionalism.” His work is distinguished by his fresh, deft integration of the modern with the antique. Documentary screening: Make No Little Plans: Daniel Burnham and the American City
6 p.m., Oct. 3
The Fair will offer a screening of this documentary film about the fascinating life and complex legacy of architect and city planner Daniel Burnham. The film was produced by The Archimedia Workshop.
