Bob’s Discount Furniture reported that it presented a $25,000 check to the winner of the 10th annual Celebrate the Arts contest, Holy Trinity Diocesan High School in Hicksville, N.Y. on November 7. The school will use the grant to purchase Apple MacBooks, additional lighting, and sound equipment to enhance the students’ performances. The MacBooks will be used for set designing, lighting design, and production.

“The Celebrate the Arts grant from Bob’s Discount furniture will allow us to provide more resources for our performing arts department and improve our students’ experiences,” said Gene Fennell, Holy Trinity principal. “We are so thankful to have won and are extremely excited to see the improvements this grant will bring.”

To celebrate the grant, Holy Trinity invited members of the Bob’s Discount furniture team to an assembly that included performances by five of its performing arts groups. The winning entry was submitted by Holy Trinity parent Frank DiLullo and was randomly selected from more than 3,600 entries submitted from across the 12 states where Bob’s Discount Furniture operates, including Illinois in anticipation of Chicago store openings in February 2016.

“The passion and love for the cultural arts that Holy Trinity's faculty brings to their students on a daily basis is both tangible and contagious. I can't think of any other school that is more deserving or will put the grant to better use,” said DiLullo. “My daughter was fortunate enough to participate in the school’s women's and mixed choirs for four years, and I’d like to thank Bob’s Discount Furniture for providing funds that will continue to allow students to have enriched experiences like my daughter did.”

Bob’s Discount Furniture developed the Celebrate the Arts contest in 2006 after noticing the elimination of fine arts and cultural programs in schools following budget cuts. The contest was created to support, maintain, and grow school arts programs in the communities that Bob’s serves. Since the contest’s inception, Bob’s Discount Furniture has donated more than half a million dollars to schools.

“In the 10 years of this program, we have awarded 42 schools Celebrate the Arts grants to support their fine arts programs and are thrilled to add Holy Trinity to that group,” said Cathy Poulin, Outreach director and spokeswoman for Bob’s Discount Furniture. “Cultural arts programs are an integral component to schools, and are too often the first to lose funding and resources.”
