High Point Market Rolls Out the Red Carpet for Fashion Panel

Furniture World News Desk on 10/16/2014

Are the Fashion and Home Decor Industries Colliding? Find out at the panel discussion between fashion and home industries’ leading trendsetters featuring Kelly Cutrone, Founder of People’s Revolution; Deborah Camplin, Senior Vice President of Design for Kate Spade; famed interior designer Barclay Butera, and Better Homes and Gardens Editor Eddie Ross, moderated by Bob Maricich, Chief Executive Officer of International Market Centers (IMC).

Trendsetters from the fashion and home décor industries come together at October Market to discuss the common threads that bind the fashion and furnishings worlds and look toward the future for both industries. Home furnishings trends typically trailed behind the fashion industry in years past, but today both worlds are setting trends on an equal basis and providing cues to one another. Panelists will discuss their views on where the trends start and whether Market weeks—both in fashion and furnishings industry—are more focused as showcases or true retail-buying events. Attendees will also get an inside scoop on the role of designer versus the stylist, and whether we can expect more interior designers to jump into the fashion world.

About the Panel:

Kelly Cutrone is the CEO and Founder of the Public Relations and Brand Strategy firm People’s Revolution. The firm has represented a variety of international clients including Valentino, Christie’s Auction House, Thierry Mugler, Paco Rabanne, Vivienne Westwood, Jeremy Scott and Agent Provocateur. Cutrone parlayed her industry stardom into television gold while appearing on MTV’s The Hills. Within a year of The Hills and The City, Bravo network offered Cutrone her own show Kell on Earth, which quickly became a cult hit. That same year Kelly also published her first book, a New York Times best seller, titled “If You Have to Cry, Go Outside: And Other Things Your Mother Never Told You” and has recently released her follow up book “Normal Gets You Nowhere.”

Debs Camplin is the Senior Vice President of Design (Home) at Kate Spade New York. In her role, Ms. Camplin is responsible for creating the vision and concepts for the entire Kate Spade home collection. Ms. Camplin joined Kate Spade New York in 2008 as Vice President of Design overseeing all non-apparel categories including handbags, shoes, small leather goods, sunglasses and soft accessories. This experience provided her with a unique knowledge of the brand and has allowed her to help evolve Kate Spade into a true lifestyle brand. Ms. Camplin began her career at Missoni as a print designer, and then spent 12 years in positions of increasing responsibility at Gap Inc. Ms. Camplin graduated from St. Martins College of Art & Design with a degree in Fashion Design and earned a Masters in Print Design from the Royal College of Art in London.

Barclay Butera has based his career on a passion for beautiful yet livable design. Butera’s mantra of redefining luxury has not changed his firm belief in helping his clients achieve the “Better-Best” concept of living. The end result has been a consistent redefinition of home décor luxury and interiors: glamorous and completely approachable. His interior and exterior environments are based upon the philosophy of layering diverse styles of furniture, textiles, and textures. His Private Collections with licensed partners are with Bradburn Gallery Home for lighting, Eastern Accents Bedding, Highland House furniture, Kravet Textiles and Carpets, Merida Natural Fiber Rugs, Mirror ImageHome, Nourison Carpets, and Zodax Home Décor and Fragrance.

Eddie Ross is the east coast editor of Better Homes and Gardens, producing home, decorating, DIY and entertaining stories across print, digital and video platforms. He has been a design, decorating, and food editor for Martha Stewart Living, House Beautiful and Food Network. In addition to his print work, which has been featured in Elle Decor, Domino and The New York Times, Ross has appeared in TV specials for Martha Stewart, HGTV and Bravo.
