Glamping for the Cause Event Raises Over $7,200 For The Common Thread for the Cure Foundation

A group of 46 industry designers, vendor reps and their guests joined together and raised over $7,200 for The Common Thread for the Cure Foundation by participating in Glamping for the Cause. This relaxing, inspirational, and fun-filled weekend event was held at the Sage Hill Campground, Caballo site in Santa Barbara, CA on Oct. 6-8, 2023. Proceeds from the event benefited The Common Thread for the Cure Foundation’s confidential Grants for people (or their immediate families) within the furnishings and design industries who have breast cancer.

“We had a wonderful camper turn out and sponsor participation which helped us reach our fundraising goals for this Common Thread for the Cure Foundation event,” commented Sasha Ikovic, event chairman and foundation director from Crossville, Inc. “Our intimate glamping and wellness weekend included delicious vegan dinners catered by The Angry Vegan along with a yoga session, meditation/cacao ceremony hosted by Brenda Shearer, hiking, swimming, and an incredible sunset sound bath hosted by Elle Larson. We also slept in beautifully decked out tents with rugs and fabrics supplied by our sponsors.”

After the Saturday night pajama dinner, the campers participated in a tea lighting ceremony. Paper tea lights were passed out and lit under the stars. The idea was to send messages of light out into the universe to those they love and have loved. “It was really a moment of coming together and sharing love and light,” Ikovic added. “It took on a life of its own and was a beautiful moment. Everyone came together and formed a heart without prompting. It was like a giant Light Brite.” The tea lighting ceremony was followed by a campfire with s’mores, dancing and playing games. The magical evening ended with the campers gazing up into the night sky watching shooting stars under the Milky Way.

“I am so grateful to have worked with a dedicated team of ‘Glamp Counselors’ who committed their time and who believed in it,” Ikovic shared. “There was a lot of coordination that went into making this happen and making it successful. Thanks to everyone who participated and donated their time and funds. This would not have been a success without them. The Common Thread for the Cure helped me at a dark time. To be able to pay it forward while also bringing a community together to share in the outdoors and wellness practices while fundraising and spreading awareness was an incredible experience. We look forward to doing it again next year.”

The Common Thread for the Cure Foundation, founded in 2000, supports individuals fighting breast cancer who are affiliated with the furnishings and design industries by offering financial assistance through confidential Grants. The grants aid breast cancer patients and their families in areas where insurance does not apply. For example, a grant can be used to meet financial obligations, household needs and transportation to medical appointments. The intent of the grants is to enhance the quality of life for those who have breast cancer enabling them to maintain as normal a lifestyle as possible while they are confronting the disease. To date, the foundation has raised over $1 million to provide grants to individuals throughout North America.

 A 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, The Common Thread for the Cure Foundation was established in 2000 by Suzann Burkhead-Bray and Scott Burkhead in memory of their sister, Sandra Burkhead Campbell, who lost her long-term battle with breast cancer in February 1999.
