BILTRITE Furniture-Leather-Mattress Marked 95 Years with Free Family Fun Day

Furniture World News Desk on 10/10/2023

BILTRITE Furniture-Leather-Mattress, a fourth generation, family-owned retailer based in the Milwaukee area, hosted a Family Fun Day to celebrate its 95th anniversary.

More than 300 children and parents turned out to enjoy a variety of activities, including bounce houses, face painting, balloon animals, oversized checkers, a DJ and cupcake and food trucks. Lots of grandparents and long-time BILTRITE customers also stopped by to take part in the event.

As part of the celebration, BILTRITE gave away swag bags with BILTRITE mugs, pens and $95 gift cards and raised funds for Make-A-Wish® Wisconsin and the Grand Avenue Club.
While BILTRITE hosted its Family Fun Day on a Sunday, the furniture showroom remained closed to honor its long-standing “Sunday Closed to be with Family” tradition.

A number of BILTRITE’s partners pitched in to help sponsor the Family Fun Day, including Archbold, Comfort sleep, Décor-Rest, Gold Bond, Mega Motion, Millcraft, Shifman, Smith Brothers, Therapedic (The Bedding Group), Ultra Comfort/Ultra Cozy, Aireloom, Null Furniture and several others.

“BILTRITE has been part of Milwaukee since 1928 so we wanted to say ‘thank you’ to the community for supporting us for more than nine decades. Since we’re a family business, hosting a family friendly party aligned with our brand was a great way to express our appreciation,” said Randi Schachter, a fourth-generation family member and chief marketing officer for BILTRITE. “We’re proud to call Milwaukee home and we’re dedicated to delivering affordable, quality furniture to our customers six days a week.”

National Recognition for 95 Years of Excellence

This March, BILTRITE received one of the industry’s most prestigious awards when it was named the 2023 Retailer of the Year (under 50 employees) by the Home Furnishings Association (HFA).

BILTRITE was founded in Milwaukee in 1928 by Irwin Kerns to sell the custom-made sofas he built. In 2006, the store moved to a brand-new facility with a 65,000-square-foot showroom and warehouse and is now run by third and fourth generation family members who are passionate about the business.

“We’re Wisconsin’s highest volume, single-location furniture and mattress store,” said Schachter. “Generations of customers come to us to find exactly what they’re looking for – sofas, sectionals, dining room tables, beautiful hand-made Amish pieces, lift chairs, mattresses and more.”
