The winners of the Interior Innovation Award – Best of Best 2012 were announced on January 16, 2012 at imm cologne. The internationally exalted jury members chose a total of 15 products to receive the prestigious awards.
This was the tenth time, in collaboration with Koelnmesse, that the GmbH the German Design Council has awarded the Interior Innovation Award (one of the world’s most renowned design prizes in the interior design industry). From January 16 – 22, the work of 2012’s winners and the Interior Innovation Award – Best of Best 2012 will be presented in a special exhibition in hall 4.2, stand A001.
“This year, once again, the jury’s contribution to the Interior Innovation Award was simply inspiring,” says Andrej Kupetz, General Manager of the German Design Council. “The quality of the entrees we received was extremely high – and by opening the competition up to an international audience last year we have been able to provide a projection of the quality of design on the
international design scene in one competition.”
As of 2011, participation in the Interior Innovation Award competition was no longer restricted to exhibitors at imm cologne. All companies in the interior design sector are welcome to respond to the call for tenders and enter their
products – from walls/flooring/ceilings, to kitchen/household, to lighting and textiles – for the Interior Innovation Award competition.
Outstanding prototypes from talented young designers from across the globe will also be on display in the D3 Contest exhibition in hall 3.2, stands A003 and D011. Three of these young talents will also be honored with the Interior Innovation Award 2012.
Once again a yearbook will be published in conjunction with the competition; it will provide an overview of all the awarded products as well as further highlights from imm cologne 2012.

Interior Innovation Award 2012
Since 2002, the Interior Innovation Award has been appraising top innovations in all product areas of the interior design sector. Established by imm cologne and the German Design Council, the competition has since developed into an effective tool for the positioning of such companies on the national and international design scene as well as setting their products apart from the rest.
[D3] Contest
For specialist visitors and exhibitors alike, the international competition for emerging talent, the D3 Contest, has now evolved to become a fixed feature at the imm cologne. In 2012 for the ninth time, the D3 Contest will be offering young designers a forum where they can present their ideas for furniture, lighting and interior design products. This year 689 products from 44 countries were entered into the competition. As part of the exhibition at imm cologne, the 28 best entries from 32 designers will be on display to the public.
The award is presented annually by Koelnmesse at imm cologne, developed and organized by the German Design Council.
