Photographer Allyson Monson, known for fine art photography that evokes light, texture, color and movement will make her debut at the fall High Point Furniture Market with a dedicated space in the Suites at Market Square. Showing her photography at High Point is a natural next step for the photographer, whose career has placed her firmly in the interior design world where she has worked side-by-side with designers and become an integral part of the design process.

“Years of showing at traditional art fairs helped me grow a client base that is primarily interior designers, retailers and trade showrooms,” said Monson, who holds a degree in textiles, merchandise and design from the University of Rhode Island. “I understand the design process and I love to be a part of it, advising my designer partners throughout their journey with a client, with my work being the final step in bringing a room together.”

Monson prides herself on a vast portfolio that has something for everyone and makes it easy for interior designers to specify her work. Her website features various ways to sort through her portfolio, including a search by color. Monson also offers complimentary mock-ups that allow interior designers to present their clients a final design with photography included.

Growing up in the suburbs of New York, the people, lights, sound and movement of the city always fascinated Monson. While the pace and energy of worldwide metropolitan cities remain one of her favorite subjects, her work also reflects her experiences with nature from the Northeast to the West Coast and the Caribbean. Monson’s photography is varied and far-reaching and includes seascapes, abstracts, cityscapes and street art. Some images are clean and crisp while still creating depth; others are complex, leaving the guesswork up to the observer. The constant in her work is the evocation of light, texture, color and movement, connecting the past with the present.

Monson will make her High Point Market debut with five new selections from her portfolio:

Reality No. 2 - Photographed in Charleston, S.C., Monson describes Reality No. 2 as her favorite piece to discuss. The photo features a sign on the side of a dilapidated building with the words “thanks but we already know” written in graffiti underneath it. While the graffiti was not visible to the naked eye when Monson took the photo, the words became clearer during the editing process, revealing a second message and changing the meaning of the piece.

“I view my work as tiny moments. It’s a world of light and color, and when combined with various textures in a room, it comes to life in myriad ways,” Monson said. “I shoot what moves me and makes me happy, and I hope that when someone views my work, it makes them happy and reminds them of their own moments, whether it be in the past, present or future.”
