Vanguard Furniture’s Solar Panel Installation Saves the Equivalent of 469 Metric Tons of Carbon Dioxide Emissions
Furniture World News Desk on
Vanguard Furniture recently partnered with Pisgah Energy and Eagle Solar & Light to design, develop and install five roof-mounted solar projects on their Product Development and Classic Leather facilities in Conover, NC. These systems, totaling 478 kWdc, serve as on-site electrical generation for Vanguard Furniture, powering the production of their environmentally conscious furnishings with renewable energy. KWDC is an abbreviation for “kilowatt direct current,” a unit for measuring the electrical output of energy.
Vanguard Furniture now has a total of 1,152 solar panels that will augment power to the two facilities. The solar array will produce over 661,900 kWh annually of clean, renewable power energy usage. The new solar electric system will offset over 469 metric tons of carbon dioxide every year that would otherwise be emitted by fossil-fuel based utility power. This impact is equivalent to saving over 1,000 barrels of oil, removing air pollution produced by over 1.2 million miles of driving, or the pollutants removed by planting 586 acres of trees annually, or powering 57 homes for a full year.
\Andy Bray, President of Vanguard noted, “environmental consciousness is a key part of our culture. Vanguard is a founding member of the sustainable furniture council. From suppliers to our manufacturing process, we emphasize reducing waste and using sustainable elements. Over the past few years, the cost reductions of solar installations have reached a point where it now makes both economic as well as environmental sense. We hope this is the first phase of Vanguard Furniture converting fully to solar power.”
Pisgah Energy was the lead designer and developer and worked in collaboration with Eagle Solar & Light to provide construction services for the project. According to Evan Becka, President and Senior Developer at Pisgah Energy, “It’s been an absolute pleasure working with the folks at Vanguard Furniture. We have deep respect for their commitment to sustainability in sourcing, manufacturing, and energy usage. Vanguard sets an example for others in the furniture industry; they’ve recognized the need to use more renewable energy, and they’re taking action to address it.”
Eagle Solar & Light installed the project utilizing Trina Solar 415 modules on both systems.
“Pisgah Energy and Eagle Solar & Light are thrilled to help further Vanguard Furniture’s commitment to guarding the planet through the installation of these solar projects.”
