Furniture World News Desk on 4/21/2021

The South Shore Furniture Board of Directors announced the appointment of Jean-Stéphane Tremblay as the company’s new President and Chief of Operations. This appointment, which has been in effect since October 1, 2020, is meant to assure the company’s business sustainability.

Jean-Stéphane Tremblay holds a law degree from the University of Ottawa and a master's degree in business administration from HEC Montreal. He practiced law for a few years before pursuing a career in finance, with the Royal Bank of Canada, and in real estate, with Provigo Distribution Inc. He also held several management positions over more than 17 years, including 7 years as Executive Vice-President at FGL Sports – the largest retailer of sports equipment and clothing in Canada, operating several hundred stores under different banners, including Sports Experts, Atmosphere and Sport Chek. Before this appointment, Mr. Tremblay held the position of Business Development Vice-President at South Shore Furniture. His expertise in retail and his management experience will be important assets for the company.

“My priority is to continue our activities, while respecting the existing corporate culture. South Shore Furniture’s success hinges on its core values, which guide our teams every day,” said Jean-Stéphane Tremblay, President and Chief of Operations at South Shore Furniture.

Jean-Stéphane Tremblay succeeds Jean Laflamme, who now holds the position of Chairman of the Board and CEO. In his new role, Mr. Laflamme will remain actively involved in the corporate decisions made at South Shore Furniture. He will also devote more time to projects with human values, such as mutual aid and skills development, which have always motivated him and are reflected in the South Shore culture.

In addition to being more involved in the community, primarily by offering mentoring in the business community, Mr. Laflamme will continue supporting the South Shore Furniture Foundation, set up for the purpose of giving back to several charities that help families and children in need.

“This long-contemplated position change is an opportunity for me to continue my mission and give back to the community through various actions. I am considering a number of initiatives, which include mentoring in the business community and providing my support to the South Shore Furniture Foundation,” said Jean Laflamme, Chairman of the Board and CEO at South Shore Furniture.

The Board of Directors and the management team at South Shore Furniture jointly wish Mr. Laflamme and Mr. Tremblay the best of success in their new roles.
