Renowned for identifying and awarding the best-of-the-best in contemporary and modern design innovation each year, The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies recently recognized designer Richard Frinier and his partners with three GOOD DESIGN® awards for his textile collections for Sunbrella® and furniture design for Brown Jordan respectively. Founded in Chicago in 1950, GOOD DESIGN® is touted as one of world’s oldest and most recognized design award programs for global design excellence and winning submissions become a part of the Museum’s permanent design archive.

“I am honored to share these awards with Sunbrella and Brown Jordan. These designations are incredibly meaningful to me given the history and legacy of the underlying design program originally founded in Chicago by the former MoMA curator Edgar Kaufmann, Jr., together with such legendary pioneers in modern design as Charles and Ray Eames, Russel Wright, George Nelson, and Eero Saarinen,” says Frinier.

The winning designs include: the Network Collection of Sunbrella textiles conceptualized to reference the designer’s interpretation of the world-changing phenomenon that is the shared digital content of social media. And, the Architexture Collection exploring architecture’s influence on society at large and the growing global design trend surrounding the surfacing and resurfacing of buildings with new, recycled and repurposed materials. http://www.sunbrella.com/frinier
