Quentin Juan Sanchez and Hannah Rose Fink have been selected as 2019 recipients of the Scott Morgan Design Scholarship, marking the fifth annual presentation of funds to rising college students.

Sanchez, a student at Savannah College of Art and Design, took the first prize of $5,000 with his outstanding design portfolio featuring outdoor seating products.

Fink, a student at Pratt Institute, received the $2,500 second-place award for her innovative idea board of smart designs.

Both students will be honored in an informal ceremony during the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York late next month.

“Both Quinten and Hanna deserve high marks for their attention to detail, well thought out design solutions and ability to fully execute their creations,” said Louis Lara, a director for the Scholarship.

Intended to fuel a passion for home furnishings product design and development embodied in the late Morgan’s nearly 40-year career in contemporary furniture design, the scholarship reflects the longtime support and mentoring he gave to aspiring young furniture designers. Morgan formed strong bonds with designers and manufacturers throughout the world, and the cash prize was created to foster successful careers in art, design and architecture.

About the Scott Morgan Design Scholarship: The fund was created shortly before Morgan’s death in September 2013 as a vehicle for business colleagues, friends and family to honor his lifelong contributions to the home furnishings industry. The Board gratefully acknowledges the extremely generous initial contribution by contemporary furnishings producer BDI to kick off donations to the fund from other notable individuals and companies.
