The International Sleep Products Association (ISPA) announced a new Sustainability section on its Website. The new section features information on recycling used mattress components, green marketing rules in foreign markets, Green Chemistry, the Mattress Industry Sustainability Initiative, as well as a section highlighting an innovative design competition focused on mattress recycling. The mattress industry provides consumers with the comfortable and affordable products they need to enjoy a safe and restful night's sleep. ISPA also wants consumers and the media to recognize that mattress producers and their suppliers are taking environmentally sound and economically practical actions to improve the long-term sustainability of the industry. This begins with the materials sourcing process, and proceeds through the manufacturing, assembly, distribution and used product disposal phases. With this new offering, ISPA has created a resource for its members to better appreciate the many ways they can contribute to a sustainable future. “We’ve created the new Sustainability section to not only keep our members abreast of green developments that affect our industry, but to give ISPA members tools that they can use to learn more about how to improve the environmental performance of their businesses and their products,” noted ISPA vice president and general counsel, Ryan Trainer. “Members can use this site to locate used mattress component recycling facilities that may be operating near them, find outlets for recycled materials they want to sell, and learn about ISPA’s efforts to improve the recycling of used mattress components.” “It’s rewarding to know that ISPA is helping to facilitate actions that will protect the long term outlook of our planet for our children and future generations,” said Dick Doyle, ISPA president and chief executive officer. “Knowledge leads to action, and by making information readily available to the industry through this new section of our Website, hopefully more companies will pursue sustainable product offerings and practices.” For more information on the new Sustainability section, visit www.sleepproducts.org/Sustainability. Established in 1915, the International Sleep Products Association, is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the growth, profitability and stature of the mattress manufacturing industry. ISPA represents over 700 mattress manufacturers and their suppliers throughout the world.
