Response to invitations for the Retail Showroom Lighting Symposium sponsored by Service Lamp, Philips Lighting Company and Furniture World has exceeded expectations. The one-day event planned for July 18 at the Philips Lighting Applications Center in Somerset, New Jersey is well on its way to filling all available seats.

Invitations were sent to Top 100 retailers, regional chains and retailers with multiple stores last week. Calls and faxes confirming attendance began to pour in this week. A number of retailers contacted Service Lamp to request a seat based on the posting on the Furniture World Website. Only 38 seats are available for the industry event to ensure that all participants have an opportunity to interact with lighting industry experts.

The one-day event begins with an information program entitled Selling Furniture in A New Light. The program is presented by lighting experts Dan Blitzer, Gary Gordon and Paul Hafner to cover four topics of interest to furniture retailers: The Perception and Psychology of Light and Color, How to Think About Lighting Your Showroom, Balancing the Composition and The Right Light for the Least Cost. Each topic will be hands on and visual as participants view full-sized displays in the 20,000 square foot Philips Lighting Application Center.

The information segment is planned to provide a running dialog between retailers and lighting experts on the advantages and disadvantages of lighting technologies and how to best use lighting to make showrooms sparkle. Participants will then have an opportunity to speak directly to an industry panel responsible for charting the course of retail lighting.

“The response confirmed our assessment that there was a real need for this kind of program” said Monte Lee, Service Lamp National Account Manager, “We put the best program possible together to make sure this was an really an industry event. We are glad to provide the opportunity for a furniture people to get the latest in lighting thinking and to interact face to face with lighting industry leaders.”
