On April 18, City of Hope’s National Home Furnishings Industry Group, colleagues and industry leaders honored Joe Cory, Sr., chairman and chief executive officer of Cory Home Delivery and the Cartledge and Bennett families, owners of Grand Home Furnishings with the 2010 Spirit of Life Award. The Spirit of Life gala raised $1 million for research, treatment and education for cancer and other life-threatening diseases at City of Hope.

Guest speaker Stephen Hata shared his personal story as a patient at City of Hope who was treated for chronic myelogenous leukemia, or CML, a disease in which too many white blood cells are made in the bone marrow.  Guest humorist Jeanne Robertson provided the evening’s entertainment.  Key sponsors were Cory Home Delivery, Grand Home Furnishings, Ashley Furniture Industries, La-Z-Boy, Serta, Simmons Bedding Corp., aspenhome, Casana Furniture, Furniture Brands International, Jena Hall and Sealy.
