IKEA's West Sacramento Store on Track to Open Spring 2006

IKEA, a leading home furnishings retailer, today noted that all walls have been raised for its future store opening next spring in West Sacramento, CA. Underconstruction on 20 acres at the Reed Avenue exit off I-80, the 265,000 square foot future IKEA West Sacramento will include 1,150 parking spaces. IKEA West Sacramento will present 50 different room settings, four complete homes, a supervised children's play area and a 250-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries or salmon plates, as well as American dishes. Other family-friendly features will include a Children's IKEA area in the showroom, baby care rooms, preferred parking and play areas throughout the store. In addition to 500 construction jobs, approximately 300 coworkers will join the IKEA family when the new store opens. "Now that our foundation has been poured and our walls have beenraised, we are proud that we are still on our way to a grand opening next spring," observed Doug Greenholz, IKEA real estate manager. "With steel and the roof going up next, we hope to be fully enclosed in the fall - before the rainy season begins. We know there are many shoppers anxious for us to open." The closest IKEA stores are in Emeryville and East Palo Alto, CA in the San Francisco Bay Area. IKEA currently has more than 215 stores in 33 countries, including 23 in the U.S. (IKEA West Sacramento will be the 27th U.S. store. Other locations of future U.S. stores include: Bolingbrook, IL; Brooklyn, NY; Canton, MI; Dublin, CA; Frisco, TX; Somerville, MA; and Stoughton, MA.
