GNYHFA

The Greater New York Home Furnishings Association and partners are teaming with Furnish a Future to look for furniture manufacturers, wholesalers, importers, home furnishings representatives, designers and retailers who are willing to donate excess inventory to "furnish a future" for New York City families who are moving from homeless shelters into their first new homes.

“When my baby and I left the shelter, we had nothing. We slept on a mattress on the floor. Furnish a Future gave us a couch, chairs, tables, toys, and children’s books—everything we needed to get started. Now we snuggle on the sofa when I read to him.” - Reina Marte

About The Program:

Join the GNYHFA in our fight to end homelessness.

Furnish a Future, a program of The Partnership for the Homeless, provides free furniture to over 2,000 formerly homeless families in New York City.  As families leave the shelters for their new apartments, they are often without any of the basic necessities they need to create a secure home and get back on their feet.  It is our goal to help Furnish a Future turn empty apartment into homes.

The Greater New York Home Furnishings Association and partners are teaming with Furnish a Future to look for furniture manufacturers, wholesalers, importers, home furnishings representatives, designers and retailers to join us un accomplishing this goal.

We ask you to look in your warehouses, on your showroom floors, and in your hearts to give us what you can.  The Massoods at MGM and the Corys at Cory Home Delivery Service have already committed to pick up and deliver furniture.

Excess inventory, including odd pieces and casegoods needing only minor touch-up or repair will be accepted. Lamps are desperately needed. Upholstered products need to be in perfect or near perfect condition.

Stan Cohen Furniture Repair has offered to do minor repairs and a high profile celebrity designer will act as spokesperson for the overall effort.

If you are a furniture retailer or a manufacturer interested in making a tax-deductible donation of inventory, or for more details, call Barbara Goldstein at GNYHFA at 212-725-0091 or email gnyhfa6@aol.com.

If you are a consumer interested in making a tax deductible contribution of lightly used furnishings, or for more details call 718-875-5353 or email furniture@pfth.org.

In addition to doing your part to help rebuild the lives of thousands of less fortunate families in New York City, your business will gain added visibility in the Partnership’s promotional materials, tax benefits from your donations, and new and unexpected floor space.

Facts At A Glance:

Furnish a Future, a program of The Partnership for the Homeless, was launched in May of 1991 and is New York City’s largest FREE furniture bank.

FaF solicits donations of both “gently used” and new furniture and household items from individuals, government agencies, schools, and private businesses.

FaF has helped more than 20,000 formerly homeless families turn bare rooms into
comfortable, functional homes.

Last year alone, FaF helped furnish more than 2100 homes with over 16,000 items donated by 130 businesses and 1400 individuals. Over 950 trucks and trailers were used to provide these services.

Each day, up to 25 families “shop” for furniture and household items. It is not uncommon
for donated furniture to be unloaded from the trucks and selected by a happy family or individual within just a few moments.

Once selected, the items are shipped out for next-day delivery. There is no delivery fee charged to the client.

Volunteers are a crucial resource for FaF. Corporate friends, students, and church youth groups nationwide come to NY to learn about homelessness and to give their time to the furniture bank.
