Furniture World Magazine

WHAT: IKEA Conshohocken invites shoppers to participate in the celebration of its roots and heritage with month-long of festivities (June 14-July 11) for the traditional Swedish Midsommar holiday. The Midsommar holiday in Sweden dates back to the Viking era when the longest days of light in Sweden (summer solstice in the U.S.) were celebrated and homes and local landmarks were decorated with flowers to officially proclaim the end of the long winter season. Today in Sweden some national holiday traditions include singing, dancing and even jumping like frogs around a Maypole decorated with leaves and flowers. Also popular during this time of year is artistic flag making and dining on cuisine specialties such as pickled herring, and for the first time of the year, new potatoes are served, and the first crops of strawberries are prepared as delicious treats.
