Studio stylists and wood coatings experts from AkzoNobel’s Global Color and Design studio for Wood Coatings are busy preparing new finishes and products for the upcoming International Home Furnishings Market at High Point, North Carolina, this spring.

Taking place between April 22–26, the High Point Market is an opportunity for AkzoNobel's specialists to share their knowledge of the latest color trends and wood finishes influencing the home furnishings sector.

The company’s Global Color and Design Studio works with color designers to create new colors and effects in paints and coatings, drawing inspiration from other areas of society, such as fashion, lifestyle, and nature. During the High Point Market – the biggest event of its kind in North America – some of the Studio’s experts in color will be sharing their valuable insights on the color and design innovations shaping the furniture, cabinet and flooring industries.

“Getting people interested in color and the latest trends is all part of what we do as a company that is excited by all elements of style and design, including color, texture, coordination and finish. Building on centuries of experience, ourGlobal Color and Design Studiocombines this deep expertise with our latest market research to develop industry-leading trends to excite and inspire,” explainsRob Haley, Color Trends Manager for Wood Coatings at AkzoNobel.

One of the trends sure to have come to the attention of wood manufacturers, designers, and consumers, is a yearning for nature and a sense of wonder in the natural world, as people search for connection, inspiration, and balance in their lives.

These ideas are brought together in AkzoNobel’s Color of the Year 2023 – Wild Wonder. Wild Wonder is a golden hue inspired by the warm tones of harvested crops, with an upbeat glow that aims to connect people with nature, creating a sense of energy and positivity.

To bring Wild Wonder to life in real-world applications, coatings and finishes, AkzoNobel’s Global Wood Design team have created four unique palettes driven by the themes, balance and rhythms of nature.

The four palettes – connected by the overarching theme of Seeds of Wonder– are:

  • Lush -Contemporary, at one with the land, living minimally
  • Buzz -Transitional design, vibrant colors, harmony
  • Raw -Cottage design, earth tones, organic
  • Flow -Traditional design, water, sand

As a result of some of the insights gained at the Fall Market, AkzoNobel is introducing several new finishes created for spring. Mid-century modern continues to gain popularity and fresh new finishes have been created in the Traditional design palette. In the Cottage design, the two-tone look dominates the category with numerous collections being introduced.

“These palettes will be a key influenceon home décor in the coming year, including furniture, flooring, cabinetry and building products, making it easyfor both designers and consumers to choose colors and combinations for a timeless look that also reflects current trends and consumer preferences,” says Haley.
