High Point University officially dedicated the "Alfred J. Audi Conference Room" in Norton Hall on Oct. 22. To commemorate the room, a plaque, which reads "The Alfred J. Audi Conference Room given by his friends at Hooker Furniture Corporation, 2008," was placed outside of the room. Funding for the room was provided by Hooker Furniture. Audi's widow, Aminy I. Audi, accepted the gift on behalf of the Audi family and the L & J.G. Stickley company. Dr. Nido Qubein, president of HPU, attended the event as well and extended his gratitude to both the Hooker Furniture Corporation and the Audi family. Audi, who previously served as the owner and president of L. & J.G. Stickley before his death in 2007, joined the family furniture business in New York City in 1960 after graduating from Colgate University. Aminy I. Audi succeeded her husband as the president of the company, and their son, Edward Audi, is responsible for manufacturing operations at Stickley. The Audi family has built L. & J.G. Stickley into a thriving international business. Their vision and sense of furniture design and manufacturing have led Stickley from 25 employees and an antiquated factory to three state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and more than 1,600 employees.
