Sustainable Furniture Council To Hold High Point Seminars

The Sustainable Furniture Council has announced several additions to their public education speaking engagements across the country, adding to an impressive list this year. The primary focus of the leading green industry organization is to get the word out in 2008. Their next opportunity will come at the Window Coverings Expo at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta on March 27 at 1:30 pm. The Expo will attract more than 5,000 certified interior designers, and the SFC will speak about the current state of sustainability. The SFC has also partnered with Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. on a week-long series of free educational breakfast and lunch seminars to be staged this April Market in High Point on the top floor of the Suites at Market Square. The “Great Starts” series will be from 7:30 to 8:30 am on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday during the week of April 7, offering up coffee, pastries, and such topics as shopping smart for green options, differences in raw materials, and waste management/recycling strategies. Vaughan-Bassett has generously co-sponsored the morning series to promote their ground-breaking 141 tree replanting program. The “Lunch N’ Learn” series will be from 12 to 1 pm the same days, serving food, drink, and such topics as a 10-Step program to get green, interior design for ceu credit, and case studies. Harden Furniture and World of Good have co-sponsored the lunch series. Harden will be announcing their achievement as the first certified Silver Exemplary member of the SFC. Seminars are intended for manufacturers, retailers, and designers alike and are open to all free of charge. www.sustainablefurniturecouncil.org These events add to what has been a busy schedule for the SFC so far this year, the organization having staged a well-attended week-long educational series at the WMC in January and sponsored presentations by SFC board members at the ASID – Illinois annual meeting in Chicago in February and at the ASID – National “Interiors 08” meeting in New Orleans last week. SFC was also very well-received by designers and consumers attending the Architectural Digest Home Show in New York. This is all part of the SFC’s significant commitment to providing ongoing public education and maintaining awareness of the green movement at every appropriate venue.
