Wolf Furniture announced that effective March 3rd 2008 it will reduce it’s carbon footprint. In an effort to reduce the large usage of resources, especially electricity and natural gas, Wolf Furniture has decided to alter their hours of operation at all eight Central Pennsylvania and Western Maryland Wolf’s locations. All of Wolf’s retail showrooms are over 40,000 square feet and have thousands of specialized lighting fixtures. Opening just an hour later and closing one hour earlier can make a substantial difference in both energy usage and expense. Fast Facts: Implementation of this plan will save over 441,948 kilowatt hours per year. That’s a savings of almost 15% in annual energy consumption from lighting alone. “We take every opportunity we can to reduce waste and operate efficiently. For example; In Wolf’s newest showroom, in State College, PA. the company purchased the most energy efficient lighting system available and installed several hundred carbon dioxide sensors that adjust our heating and cooling use based on the number of occupants in the building. Other recent improvements include efficient diesel engines used in our delivery vehicles, and recycling packing waste and other material in our warehouse. If by making this small change can help improve the environment for our kids or grandchildren then we are all for it.” said Doug Wolf, 4th Generation President of Wolf Furniture. As of March 3rd all area showroom will open one hour later at 11:00am instead of 10:00am and will close one hour earlier at 8:00pm instead of 9:00pm Monday thru Friday. Saturday the stores will open at 10am but close one hour earlier at 8pm. Sunday hours will not be affected. “Many of our suppliers including Lazboy, Broyhill, Sealy and Kingsdown have also taken steps in the manufacturing process to help curb green house gases and waste; It makes sense for us to follow suit and do our part” said Wolf. “We may lose a little business in the short term but if you look at the big picture it’s well worth it” Wolf added. Wolf Furniture was founded in Altoona in 1902. Headquarters are in Bellwood, PA, with eight store locations: Altoona, State College, Johnstown, Lancaster, Harrisburg and York, PA, Hagerstown and Frederick, MD. There is also a Wolf Furniture Clearance Outlet store located in Altoona.
