Patios Plus, a leading retailer of casual furnishings and accessories, was honored with the prestigious Apollo Award, named the top retailer internationally in the multi-store category for the first time. They were recognized with the award by the Summer and Casual Furniture Manufacturers Association (SCFMA). Patios Plus has been an award nominee consecutively over the last eight years. The Apollo Awards, now in it 48th year, annually honors the industry’s top casual furniture retailers across the country and abroad. The gala awards ceremony and dinner took place in Chicago at the Navy Pier Convention Center with approximately 2,000 attendees. Patios Plus offers their clients a unique, innovative and expansive environment in which to shop. Their Coachella Valley showrooms in Rancho Mirage and La Quinta display sophisticated collections in a setting of actual lifestyle motifs. Patios Plus has been serving the desert since 1976, under the direction of current owners, Jim Schultz, Kristine Schultz Hutchinson and Les and Janice Schultz since 1992. Jim Schultz is a graduate of the University of Maryland, specializing in business management. He served as president and marketing director of one of the principal insurance companies in the Washington, D.C. area before moving to the desert in 1992. Kristine Schultz Hutchinson, Jim’s sister, is a graduate from East Carolina University, and moved to the desert in 1984. She began her local career as an associate with Steven DeChristopher Interiors. In 1992, she established Kristine Schultz Interior Design—a full-service interior design company with projects throughout the desert and Los Angeles areas. She is also responsible for the buying and merchandising of Patios Plus.
