Magnussen Home will have an official fair barker, a genuine stilt walker and a live appearance by Miss North Carolina, Jessica Jacobs, along with plenty of live entertainment and lots of down-home cooking at the Magnussen Home Furnishings, Inc. showroom during the HIgh Point Market. “At Magnussen Home, we are known for our festive Market atmosphere. This Market we are bringing the charm and good old-fashioned fun of a county fair straight to our showroom,” says Richard Magnussen, president. This Market-long celebration will directly benefit the Children’s Miracle Network – an alliance of premier children’s hospitals that treat 17 million children for every disease and injury imaginable each year. Children’s hospitals provide state-of-the-art care, life-saving research and preventative education for children 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. During Market, Magnussen Home will match every donation that is received. The County Fair atmosphere, the company says, will provide plenty of fun, as the Magnussen Home showroom is transformed into an authentic county fair complete with tent, carousel, crazy mirrors and an old-fashioned ticket booth. Showroom visitors will be greeted by an official fair barker, enjoy a roving entertainer who will guess attendee weight and age, and wonder at the talents of a stilt walker who will roam in and outside the showroom. Visitors can join in on the fun by playing four classic midway games including a chance to show off their strength at the Clown Striker game, win prizes up to $1,000 per day at the Duck Pond, or test their skills in the Rubberband Shooting Gallery and Tic Tac Toss. Marketgoers will also receive their very own Ollie the stuffed pig as a memento of their day at the Magnussen Home County Fair. MEET JESSICA JACOBS – MISS NORTH CAROLINA 2007 – AND SUPPORT CHILDREN’S MIRACLE NETWORK Marketgoers will also have a chance to meet Jessica Jacobs, Miss North Carolina 2007, when she appears at the Magnussen Home County Fair on behalf of the Children’s Miracle Network from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1. During her appearance, Magnussen Home will match every donation made to the Children’s Miracle Network. “I’m thrilled to be a part of the Magnussen Home County Fair during,” says Jacobs. “Growing up in High Point, I know how important Market is to our city and our state and I’m proud to support both the Children’s Miracle Network and our valued furniture industry.” Miss North Carolina is taking a year off from her graduate studies in organizational communications at North Carolina State University to focus on her new role. Since winning the title in June, Jacobs has been focusing her energies promoting North Carolina’s “Read to Me” program across the state. JUDGE FOR YOURSELF: A PIE-JUDGING CONTEST On Tuesday, October 2, at 1:00 p.m., there will be a real, old-fashioned pie-judging contest featuring home-baked pies from several area churches. The pie judges will be Brian Casey, president of the High Point Market Authority, and a panel of national retailers. Marketgoers will also be able to sample the delicious entries as well. The Magnussen Home showroom will also feature all-American music including the bluegrass sounds of the Home Town Boys, the Brice Street Band featuring songs of the 60s, 70s and 80s, the vocals and guitar music of Stacey and Jack, and the sounds of Keith Burkhart, guitarist and vocalist. The Magnussen Home Café will serve classic American home-style food including North Carolina BBQ, burgers and foot-long hotdogs, southern fried chicken and traditional fresh-squeezed lemonade, cotton candy, candy apples and popcorn. “Magnussen Home County Fair is a wonderful way for our company to celebrate its 75-year old history and honor our North Carolina roots,” Magnussen says, “while at the same time supporting the Children’s Miracle Network – a worthy cause benefiting children across the country that we know our customers will be eager to support.” Magnussen Home Furnishings, Inc. designs, imports, and distributes medium- and upper-medium-priced occasional tables, accent furniture, bedroom, dining room and home entertainment furniture across all style categories for retailers around the world.
