150 New York area furniture retailers, representatives, suppliers and importers attended the recent Greater New York Home Furnishings Association Cruise Around Manhattan on September 5th. The gala affair that included sit down dinner, open bar, dancing, a casino and entertainment also benefited Mended Hearts, a national nonprofit organization affiliated with the American Heart Association. Mended Hearts partners with 460 hospitals and rehabilitation clinics and offers services to heart patients through visiting programs, support group meetings and educational forums. Their stated mission is to "inspire hope in heart disease patients and their families." In addition to the Association's donation to Mended Hearts, raffle winner Doug Ruggles of Whitehouse Furniture generously made a matching contribution to this important chartable organization. Barbara Goldstein, GNYHFA's Executive Director said that, "at the Boat Gala, everyone was excited about all of our upcoming events, especially our formal Dinner Dance on November 17th honoring Julio Reguerio, Jr. of The Place Furniture Galleries & Dennis Spiegel of Ashley Furniture Industries." "We are on a positive roll," added GNYHFA President Jordan Greenberg of Apropos. "Our recent Texas Hold'em was so successful that we have scheduled another tournament on October 17th. Suppliers who showed at our Expo event this summer with keynote speaker and real estate guru Julius Feinblum, got so many referrals that they are clamoring for another event." All participants interviewed said they had a great time as elegant yacht sailed up the Hudson River, past Battery Park and down the East River. It was reported that a group of retailers who were not in the casino at the time, heard Association President Jordan Greenberg singing an off-key version of the "Star Spangled Banner" as the ship hovered near the Statue of Liberty on the return trip.
