According to THE CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, "Gordon's Furniture Store in downtown Statesville is closing after 90 years, as consumers continue to gravitate toward chains, Gordon family members told the Observer." The article notes that, "The store will close by Sept. 30, when its lease ends." The article noted that the building, one of five in the complex was a total loss. The retailers include Shofer's Furniture, Gardiner's Furniture and Gavigan's Furniture." The story notes that House Bill 846 calls for a one percent sales tax increase to six percent.
