Mattress Firm, one of the nation’s leading mattress retailers, announced today that it has completed the acquisition of the leases of 16 Houston-based American Mattress locations. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The acquisition further solidifies Mattress Firm’s leadership position in its hometown of Houston, increasing its store count there to more than 50 locations and bringing the company’s total store count to more than 390 stores in 35 markets across 20 states. “We look forward to expanding our presence in Houston and bringing our unique retail experience, sleep expertise and the broadest selection of products and brands in the mattress industry to even more consumers throughout the area,” said Gary Fazio, CEO of Mattress Firm. “This deal underscores our commitment to our hometown and is one more step in our overall expansion strategy, which includes both organic growth and acquisitions.” The 16 American Mattress locations closed in May. Mattress Firm will immediately begin the process of transitioning the locations with new signing, its signature store format and expanded product selection. The company expects to reopen all new stores soon.
