Sarreid, Ltd., is marking 40 years of ‘sourcing the exceptional’ and honoring the dealers who helped write the first chapters of the Sarreid story with an event on opening day of the High Point Market. Beginning at 5:00 p.m., March 26, in the company’s Commerce & Design showroom, Sarreid will present a specially selected gift to its original dealers from the 1960s and 1970s. Champagne, hor d’oeuvres, desserts, guest speakers and entertainment will also be on hand. Joe Carroll, publisher of leading industry publication Furniture/Today, will introduce Dr. Nido Qubein, High Point University president and internationally recognized speaker. Dr. Qubein will address attendees on the topic of performance and leadership as applied to sales. Other local dignitaries, market officials, current Sarreid dealers and industry media will also be in attendance. In 1967, Alex Sarratt and Walter Reid, moved to Spain and began importing decorative home accents with Old World flavor to the United States. At a time when the vast majority of furniture and home décor available to middle-class Americans was produced domestically, Sarreid’s model of sourcing products from overseas was unusual. Sarreid is still known for its hand-crafted decorative accessories produced by craftsmen around the world, such as the Di Erras collection of distinctive lighting and the company’s newly released line of leather-bound books. The Bookbinders Leather Book collection consists of gently read and worn books, expertly rebound by artisans in fine tooled leather. Over the years, the company has developed into a substantial provider of mid- to high-end solid wood furniture. Making its debut at the High Point market this month, the 300-piece Chatham Crossing line is the most recent example of Sarreid’s expertise at combining historic perspective and modern sensibilities. Every piece in Chatham Crossing is hand-made from solid walnut, lending the large-scale furniture warmth, grace and heft. Iron and stone details express the line’s inherent Old World majesty, without compromising accessibility. A commemorative exhibit will be featured in the Sarreid showroom throughout market. The retrospective will present ‘Vintage Sarreid’ products from the company’s early years, giving market attendees a visual account of the company’s early history.
