After 20 plus years with the Powell Company, David Giles Sr. Vice President Mass Merchant Sales is retiring at the end of January, 2007. David has been a major contributor to Powell's growth and success during these years in the mass merchant channel as well as with major furniture retailers. Rick Powell, Chairman recalled the very beginning when David joined the company stating, "I remember the first day when I hired David, sitting in front of yet another retailer no longer in business, Gemco Discount Stores. I told David not only will you be one of our key Vice Presidents for as long as you want, you will be our designated golfer in all the various tournaments we support for our key accounts and special charities. David has been an incredible employee and terrific friend." David has weathered the many ups and downs in this industry and has always played a role in keeping Powell at the top. Bill Benton, President and CEO stated, "The entire Powell team and I want to wish David a happy retirement and thank him for his many years of loyal service. His contributions to the growth of Powell over the last 20 years are much appreciated. I know he will enjoy the additional time he will be able to spend with his wife and family." David will be working closely with Bill Benton and the new Mass Merchant Sales Managers to transition accounts through the month of January. David stated, "It has been a wild ride but I would do it all over again. I would like to thank all of my customers and friends for all the years of laughter, tears and challenges we endured together." While David will clearly be missed by his many friends within Powell and the Industry, we know we can still find him as he will undoubtedly continue with his support of charitable organizations by lending his low handicap to a successful round of golf.
