American Furniture Warehouse's Jake Jabs Honored By Easter Seals

For more than a decade, Easter Seals National Board of Directors has annually recognized the role of volunteerism in charitable giving by recognizing a philanthropist who had made a significant impact on Easter Seals. This year Jake Jabs, President and CEO of Colorado's largest furniture retailer, of American Furniture Warehouse, has received the prestigious Easter Seals 2006 Philanthropist of the Year Award. Nominations were submitted from over 100 Easter Seal affiliates nationwide. At the recent 2006 Easter Seals National Convention in Las Vegas, Lou Lowenkron, chairman, Easter Seals National Board of Directors presented this honor to Jabs at the Chairman's Dinner. More than 400 Easter Seals volunteer leaders, staff and guests were in attendance. Jabs is a community leader known for giving back to the community. For Easter Seals Colorado in particular, he has made his resources, personal funds and talents available for 30 plus years. He has contributed over two million dollars monetarily and has been responsible for nearly a million dollars through advertising and personal acquired gifts. In addition, Jabs has served as a host for Easter Seals Telethons, has been an auctioneer at several high dollar events, performed numerous times by singing and playing his guitar for the children at camp, encourages his staff to give through payroll deduction and he donates all the furniture needed for Easter Seal facilities. His video production department has shot and produced several pieces that were used for promotional purposes for the organization Easter Seals Colorado has been a leader in creating innovative programs to support people with disabilities since 1926. Serving over 6,000 children and adults with disabilities in Colorado each year, Easter Seals Colorado offers a warm water therapy pool, employment services through job placement and training programs, an Adult Day Stroke Program, the Explorers Adult Day Program, Community Transit Service, AgrAbility for rural communities, and a year-round recreational camp in the mountains for both children and adults.
